Conference season is nominally September onwards, but the truth is, there are brilliant, informative and engaging events all year round. As a hair testing laboratory, we naturally have one foot in the world of law, so we like to get out and about to as many events as possible throughout the year.

Here are some of our highlights:

15th March
Compass Job Fair
Thinktank, Millennium Point, Birmingham
Free

While ostensibly a job fair, showcasing employment, training and career development opportunities in social work and social care, this event also offers a number of seminars and guest speakers, too (TBA). We’ll be there, showcasing our hair testing services so come and say hello.

8th May
North West Social Work Show
Hilton Hotel, Deansgate, Manchester
Free

Another Compass social work event, aimed at the voluntary and private sectors, independent practitioners and local authority staff. As well as assessing the jobs market, attendees can congregate, network, learn and share knowledge, as well as look for their next career move. You can catch seminars from local councils - Darlington, Lancashire, Rotherham, Derby and more - while the social work cinema will feature screenings of 20 films covering topics like child protection, dementia and mental health.

12th-14th June
22nd Scientific Meeting of the Society of Health Testing (SoHT)
Hotel Hilton, Cardiff, Wales
€290 for SoHT members before 31st March (€360 after)
€340 for non-members before 31st March (€425 after)

The biggest event of the year for the hair testing world, and this year proudly hosted by us here at Cansford Labs. A packed 3-day event: combining insightful keynote talks from some of the world’s leading experts, scientific sessions and roundtable discussions. Make sure you sign up for the banquet at Cardiff Castle on the evening of the 13th, too.

19th-20th September
LeedsLaw2017
The Met Hotel, Leeds
Free

Organised by The Solicitors Group as part of its national roadshow of 18 legal exhibitions and training conferences throughout the year, LeedsLaw2017 brings together over 400 legal professionals for a whole host of educational content and speakers over its two days. All completely free. We'll be there on the 19th when we will be talking to Criminal and Family Law practitioners.

4th-5th October
LAW2017 NEC
The Gallery, NEC, Birmingham
Free

Another Solicitors Group event, this time at Birmingham’s NEC, covering (among other things) Criminal Law, Family Law and Employment Law practice areas. Expect plenty of insightful talks, fantastic networking opportunities and, us. We’ll be there.

13th November
Compass Job Fair
Marriott Hotel, Grosvenor Square, London
Free

The London leg of the Compass job fair runs from 9:30am-4pm and features a variety of seminars (to be announced on the day) and a host of exhibitors for across the social work spectrum. Collect your CPD certificate after 4pm and join the other attendees for a wine reception post-event. Visitors also get a free copy of COMPASS, the annual guide to social work and social care 2017.
